Why Was Ryan Gosling Holding Another Woman’s Hand at Oscars 2024 While His ‘Wife’ Was Left Backstage?

A-list Hollywood stars graced the red carpet for one of the most-watched award ceremonies, the Oscars. This event has fans and viewers excited to see which celebrities go home with the awards, what they are wearing, and who they bring as dates.

One of the films that took the world by storm was the “Barbie” movie, and one of the lead stars, Ryan Gosling, had fans talking and wondering why his wife, Eva Mendes, was not walking the carpet with him.

Instead, Gosling walked the carpet with a blond woman, wearing a gold and black outfit. The two were seen walking into the award ceremony holding hands. The actor was one of the nominees at the Academy Awards for his role in “Barbie” and fans anticipated seeing him and his partner walk the carpet.

However, the actor decided to attend the ceremony with another important woman in his life, his sister Mandi Gosling. As much as fans loved seeing the actor with his sister by his side, many hoped to see Eva on the carpet. “On another note, where is Ryan Gosling’s wife, Eva Mendes?” remarked a fan.

This was not the first time Ryan had brought her to a red carpet-event. During the “Barbie” press tour, Mandi was his right hand and she had been his date for other award events. At one of the “Barbie” press events, the actor was asked how it felt to share the moment with his sister.

Ryan joked and said he had always been Ken while his sister was Barbie. He praised Mandi for always being his support system. She walked him to school and was constantly there to take care of him, so taking the back seat and letting the women in his life shine has been something he’s used to.

His sister looked at him with awe and thanked him for the nice things he said about her. The siblings share a close connection, and Mandi also gushed over how great her little brother was.

She expressed how grateful she was to be his sister and described him as “introspective, humble, hilarious, full of integrity, impossibly thoughtful, a dream dad and partner. I am the proudest sister in the world and had to share this piece that captures him so well,” she added.

Ryan and his sister grew up in a Mormon family in the Canadian town of Cornwall, Ontario. They both shared a close relationship with their mother, who worked as a secretary. Their father was a salesman and was always on the road, but Ryan’s parents’ marriage ended when he was 13.

The “Barbie” movie also exposed fans to Ryan as a singer. It turned out he and his sister used to sing at weddings at a young age. At seven, the actor even developed a dance targeted at women. “I did what I had to do to get where I wanted to go. I had unearned confidence,” he said.

As someone who was raised by his mother and sister, Ryan has always had the utmost respect for women. Now, as a father with daughters, he could not be more proud of the women that surround him. “I think women are better than men. They are stronger, and more evolved. You can tell especially when you have daughters and you see their early stages, they are just leaps and bounds beyond boys immediately,” he said.

The actor is not afraid to publicly embrace some of his co-stars. During the Oscars ceremony, he was seen holding Margot Robbie’s hand, and during his Ken performance, he danced with Emma Stone.

The Gosling family all had a knack for entertainment. Mandi has a career background as a cinematographer and has worked on Pharrell’s music video for the hit song “Happy.” She’s also a coordinator, has worked in strategic events, and studied journalism at California State University, Northridge.

While fans wanted to see Ryan with his wife Eva on the red carpet, the couple decided to not attend these events together anymore. So while “The Notebook” star was posing for the cameras, his wife was behind the scenes waiting for him to get home so they could put the kids to bed. One fan said they were excited to see Eva on the carpet, but she responded, “We don’t do those things together.”

Besides not attending Hollywood events together, Eva rarely shares any photos of her and her partner on social media. She specifically only shares old pictures because they are already accessible on the internet, but generally, she loves to keep her family life private. “My man and kids are private. That’s important to me, so thanks for getting that,” she emphasized.

Although the couple hardly speaks of their relationship in public, when Ryan Gosling accepted a Golden Globe award for the film “La La Land,” he made a special thank you speech to Eva. He said, “I just would like to try and thank one person properly, and say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer.”

He continued to reiterate that if it was not for his wife’s strength and ability to care for their family while he was away, he would not have been on stage accepting the prestigious award.
